Starling Sails

North Sails New Zealand are the exclusive sail supplier to the iconic, Des Townsend designed class.  The objective of the Starling Class is for all sails and spars to be identical.
Therefore, our commitment is to reproduce identical Starling sails.

All Starling sails from our loft are cut on a computer plotter for accuracy.

The dimensions of the Starling sail are:

Luff is 4040mm long.

For people fitting fixed goosenecks, we recommend you allow 4025mm from the top of the boom to the top of the sail. This 15mm shorter than the actual length of the sail but please remember that the shockcord boltrope in the luff of the sail is under tension and will take up the difference. This allows the sail to "bag up" a bit in the lighter airs and the difference is quickly taken up with the cunningham control when the wind freshens.

The Foot is 2115mm long. If you are making a new boom, please allow for the foot to stretch out to 2125mm. The Leech is 4370mm long

Every North Sails Starling sail comes with a sail bag, sail numbers, woolies, battens and a copy of the North Sails Starling Tuning Guide.

Trail Covers
The trail cover is a simple Nylon top cover which is available in several colors and designed purely for protecting the boat from dust and rain while it is being trailed around. The Trail covers are - $135.00 including GST.

Rigged Cover
The Rigged cover is a much more waterproof cover than the trail cover and is made from the Polyester Odyssey III Fabric. It comes velcro closed slots to fit around sidestays and masts letting you put the cover on the boat while rigged up overnight at regattas. The rigged covers are also available in a range of colors but because of their primary use we recommend white or grey to help reflect the heat of the sun. The rigged covers are $240.00 including GST.

Toe Straps
Hiking straps are available in a range of colors. All are padded with 65mm wide foam. Price - $85.00 including GST

Foil Covers
Padded and available in a range of colors. Fits both centerboard and rudder along with the tiller and extension. - $100.00 including GST.

Spare Battens and Sail Numbers
Blue Streak Battens - $11.00 each including GST and $22.50 incl GST for the #2 batten Set of Battens - $60.00 including GST
Sail Numbers - We are able to replace and change sail numbers on older sails, however please realise that the old numbers have stuck very well and it can be very time consuming to remove them which can sometime lead to costly bills. New Sail Numbers cost $5.35 each including GST.
